Miami were 4-2 down in Frisco with just ten minutes to play, only for an own goal and then a trademark Messi free-kick, his second of the night, to force a penalty shootout.
Messi, Sergio Busquets, Leonardo Campana, Kamal Miller and Benjamín Cremaschi all held their nerve from 12 yards, as Inter Miami snuck through in Texas.
In their way is Charlotte FC, after they came from a goal down to defeat Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium on Monday night.
So, can Queen City pull off a massive shock at DRV PNK Stadium, or will Messi fire Miami through to a semi-final date with either LAFC or Monterrey on Tuesday?
