12 months ago, Rangers were knocking out RB Leipzig, thereby booking their place in the Europa League Final.
Now, they simply cannot wait for this season to end.
Last weekend, the Light Blues’ misery continued, again beaten by Celtic, this time going down 1-0 in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden.
That was the fifth Old Firm derby of the season, with Celtic winning four of them, the other ending in a 2-2 draw.
So, Michael Beale’s first half-season in charge will end trophyless and, given that the Gers are guaranteed to finish second, there’s very little to play for.
Beale will have to use the remaining five games of the season to help inform who he wants in his squad going forward and who is surplus to requirements.
The Dons were last in action a fortnight ago, coincidentally enough also against Rangers, recording a first victory over the Gers at Pittodrie in seven years.
Liam Scales cross evaded everybody and flew into the top corner, before Bojan Miovski’s header secured the points.
Back in January, the Reds were smashed 5-0 by Hibs, 6-0 at Hearts and were knocked out the Scottish Cup by Darvel from the West of Scotland League Premier Division, the sixth-tier.
Since then though, Barry Robson has completely turned their fortunes around, recording seven successive Premiership victories, the club’s best streak since September 2016.
Robson was named permanent manager earlier this week and deservedly so.
The Dons kick off in third place, five points clear of Hearts, knowing that, should they remain third, they’ll qualify for a UEFA group stage for the first time in 16 years, which would be massive for the club.
So, will Aberdeen’s winning streak continue, as they seek to pile more misery onto beleaguered Rangers at Ibrox?
