Malta meantime continue to be the group’s whipping boys, demolished 4-0 by England in Ta’ Qali on Friday, with Ferdinando Apap’s own goal opening the floodgates.
Michele Marcolini’s men remain bottom of this group without a point to their name, previously beaten 2-1 in North Macedonia and 2-0 when Italy visited Grawnd Nazzjonali.
The Reds have now lost five successive qualifiers, last winning a qualification fixture on the road in Armenia almost exactly a decade ago.
Despite having to play this match in Slovakia, due to the ongoing Russian invasion, Ukraine should cruise to victory at Štadión Antona Malatinského.

Bournemouth’s Illya Zabarnyi did get his maiden Ukraine goal in the extraordinary win over North Macedonia; he and Vitalii Mykolenko of Everton will continue to start in defence.
Anatoliy Trubin appears to be his country’s number one, chosen over Andriy Lunin and Heorhiy Bushchan.
Malta team news
Jodi Jones of Notts County will continue to lead the line for Malta, winning his eighth cap.
Centre-back Steve Borg will earn his 74th cap, captaining the team.
