After a mixed start to Euro 2024 qualifying in March, will Czechia put three more points on the board in Tórshavn?
On matchday one, the group’s two heavyweights went head-to-head in Prague, with Czechia demolishing Poland 3-1.
Ladislav Krejčí broke the deadlock after just 27 seconds, Tomáš Čvančara added a second less than two minutes later, before Jan Kuchta completed the rout in the second half.
This was a statement victory for Jaroslav Šilhavý’s side, but they could not back it up, held to a goalless draw by minnows Moldova in Chișinău three days later.
Despite this obvious set-back, the Czechs are still well placed to maintain their record of having qualified for every single Euros since gaining independence from Czechoslovakia.
Nevertheless, with this their only qualifier of the window, Czechia will be desperate to claim a victory here.
Under Håkan Ericson, the Faroes have enjoyed plenty of success in the UEFA Nations League, gaining promotion from League D in 2020 before preserving their third-tier status last year.
However, in the Landsliðið have only ever won 15 of 179 qualifiers, not beating a team of Czechia’s status since two famous victories over Greece eight years ago.
Here, it won’t be easy but the away side are expected to leave Tórsvøllur with all three points.
Faroe Islands team news
Klæmint Olsen, who joined Icelandic champions Breiðablik earlier this year, is the Faroes’ main man for goals, having netted ten times for his country, notably scoring against Spain, Denmark and Israel in recent years.
Fellow striker Jóan Símun Edmundsson will be hoping to win his 78 international cap, chasing down Fróði Benjaminsen’s national record of 96.
Czechia team news
Patrik Schick won’t feature, having not played Bayer Leverkusen since early-March due to an Adductor injury, which is a big blow.
Without their talisman, Schick’s club teammate Adam Hložek could lead the line.
West Ham duo Vladimír Coufal and Tomáš Souček, who won the Europa Conference League ten days ago, will both start.
